“Is It Depression Or…”

Here’s a fun game. It’s called, “Is It Depression Or…” and this is how you play it:

Experience vague symptoms like fatigue, low mood, feeling overwhelmed, and/or general malaise then ask yourself, “Is it depression, or am I feeling this way because ________”. You can fill in the blank with all sorts of options. Here are a few:

  • I’m PMSing
  • I’m on my period
  • I didn’t sleep well last night
  • I am getting a cold
  • I am getting COVID
  • I have COVID, but a mild case
  • I am experiencing burnout from work
  • I woke up on the wrong side of the bed
  • I am in physical pain that my brain is interpreting as emotional unwellness
  • I am in emotional pain that my brain is interpreting as physical unwellness
  • I haven’t eaten recently
  • The food I ate was not nutritious
  • I have the flu
  • I haven’t had any water to drink yet today
  • I’m constipated
  • I have a festering grudge that I have yet to process
  • Someone has actually wronged me
  • I think someone has wronged me but it was a miscommunication
  • I forgot to take my meds
  • I need a shower
  • I haven’t exercised regularly (or at all) and my body is telling me that it needs regular exercise
  • The people around me actually suck
  • I need to clean my bedroom/office/kitchen/house/environment
  • The weather is gloomy
  • There is a storm front coming in and the weather will be gloomy
  • I’ve been thrown out of my routine
  • I need a nap
  • This is a natural fluctuation of mood, as is common to all humans
  • I haven’t had enough social interaction
  • I’ve had too much social interaction
  • I’m absorbing someone else’s bad mood
  • I’m experiencing an emotional hangover from the series (book or TV) that I just finished
  • I overdid it on my workout
  • I have a brain tumor

This game has many levels and no age limit. It is a dynamic puzzle that changes over time, so you don’t need to worry about this going into the game cupboard and getting dusty. As soon as you master one level, you can go on to the next. Or revisit that level, because you have only actually mastered it in one situation.

For the pro gamers out there, you can add it to any of our other games to increase the difficulty level. Popular combinations of games are “Is It Depression, Is It Fibromyalgia, Or…” and “Is It Depression, Is It Anxiety, Or…”.

*”Is It Depression Or…” is incompatible with the “Is This Postpartum Depression Or Normal Parenthood?” game. In fact, “Is This Postpartum Depression or Normal Parenthood?” is an off-brand, knock-off game that we do not support because in that case, the answer is just yes. It’s all the things. Go get help.
