Story Time

I’m sharing a funny story because sometimes you just have to laugh at the things kids do even if it drives you insane.

My oldest hates sudden loud noises. We’ve already established that in a previous post. One sudden loud noise she struggles with is when her baby sister cries. How does she deal with it? Matching it with her own noise. This noise matching has evolved from yelling to meowing, back to yelling and most recently after a lot of coaching she has been aggressively shushing when her sister cries. We realize that it is extremely uncomfortable and potentially even painful for her to hear these noises, but it isn’t acceptable to yell at someone every time they make a loud noise or cry. Oh, and she refuses to wear any sort of ear protection.

One day our little family was driving home from the store. The baby started crying and the toddler started yelling. My husband suggested to our toddler that she wiggle her body instead of yell to deal with her discomfort. When the baby took a break in crying they even practiced wiggling, but when it came time to put practice into performance, our toddler ended up screaming “WIGGLE! WIGGLE! WIGGLE! WIGGLE!!” We were so proud of her for trying what we suggested, but it took my husband and I everything we had to stifle our laughter.

Parenting is wild and hilarious sometimes.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

Love,

Rae
