Migraine treatment plan

After getting all my test results in my doctor came up with a 4-6 month treatment plan depending on how I react.

The first prong of my treatment plan is doing a diet that first came about to treat seizures, keto. The keto diet I am on is more restrictive in some ways and less restricted in others than what you would find in keto for weight loss. It is 15g (most weight loss keto diets are between 30-50g) of carbs per day and at least 60% of my calories are from fat, and eating at least 1600 calories (I have no calorie restrictions as long as I don’t go over my carbs, which if you’re going for weight loss traditionally there are calorie restrictions). The first 2 weeks I had to count all carbs, including fiber, toward my carb count.  After that, I no longer had to include fiber in my carb count. After 3 months I’m going to increase my carbs to 30g and then wear a continuose glucose monitor to see how I handle adding carbs back in.  If I handle it well then I’ll increase my carb intake by 10g a week until I get to either a more normal amount of carbs or as high as my body will tolerate, whichever one happens first.  The doctor  also recommends doing keto for 6 weeks every 6 months as maintenance.

Running on ketones instead of carbs does two things.  First it decreases the blood sugar high and low roller coaster  I was on.  Second it gives the hypothalamus a rest.

The second prong of my treatment is fixing the structural damage.  The first part is 2-3 sarapin injections every 6 weeks. I’ve also had chiropractic adjustments.  For the first 4-6 weeks I went twice a week. I am now down to once a week, and at some point will decrease visits to as far apart as possible while still maintaining results.  When I go in for adjustments I also do traction and vagus nerve stimulation. I also started core strengthening 10 weeks into treatment. Once I hit all the core strengthening goals, I will take home a posture reminder device that vibrates when I go into poor posture. When I “graduate” I’ll receive a denneroll, which helps maintain the proper curvature of my neck, to use 3-4 times a week indefinitely

Treatment has required work from me.  It wasn’t a simple pill to make it all better, but I am doing better.  Next time I post I’ll go more into detail on my personal experience doing the treatments.
